Surrounded by nature with neighbours at a distance and just birdsong from the trees. The cottage is set at the centre of one hectare of private land. A few sheep & goats pass by below occasionally, that’s all. From the south-facing terrace you see no other houses, just nature and mountains, and no one sees you. The private estate of some 10,000 m² of land is planted with a variety of trees including olives, almonds, walnut, cherry and apple. *Quality and comfort The cottage is rustically stylish. It has a pine wood floor in living area and bedroom, chestnut beams, a large mosaic shower and quality furnishings. *Facilities Mains water & electricity; WiFi; double bedroom (bed is 1.50 x 1.90 m) with fitted wardrobe; fully equipped kitchen; all towels & bedding (including pool towels); soaps & shampoo; hairdryer; washing machine; swimming pool (June to September, longer if the heat persists); gas heater, double glazing & Hergom log stove for the winter (firewood can be supplied at cost); monitor screen with HDMI cable for connecting devices; games (eg ping pong, badminton, chess, scrabble) & books in English; private parking. *Spaciousness The cottage is light-filled, generously roomy for two people and has a variety of spaces inside and out, porches, a pergola by the pool, within a hectare of private land *Views Panoramic views of the mountains: of the distant Mines of the Oath, of Sierra Lújar, of evergreen-covered Natural Park of Sierra Nevada to the rear, of Pitres village. |
*Sun, warmth & shade
South-facing cottage with a good chance of sun all year round. Perfectly situated in beautiful mountain countryside of La Alpujarra, the gentle Tahá Valley typically offers warm, sun-filled days at an altitude of 1,100 metres. Although only 15 minutes by car from the Poqueira Gorge (you can also walk between the two), the east-west valley of the Tahá gets 5 hours more direct sunlight and is typically 3 to 4 degrees warmer. The cottage has two sun beds, two shaded porches; a shaded pergola by the pool and a variety of trees. *Swimming pool A main attraction in the summer, the filtered swimming pool is avocado shaped and 8.5 m at its longest, 6.5 m at its widest. It has a shaded pergola and sun beds. Pool maintenance is included. *Location & restaurants 20 minutes or less walking distance to 3 villages (Mecina, Ferreiola & Atalbéitar). A 15-minute walk from the nicest country bar-restaurant in the area. Direct access for car from a very quiet road and private parking. Pitres for all shopping is 3 km. Two routes in and out for driving west to Capileira & Granada, or east to Trevélez and beyond. Everyone knows that Andalucia has the sunniest climate in Europe. It’s big on wide-open natural spaces, big on easy living, low on population and cars. Southern Spain is well-known for its relaxed atmosphere and Mediterranean diet.

The best known Alpujarra destination is the Poqueira Gorge, especially Capileira. It’s truly spectacular and the village facilities are very good. But if you are looking for somewhere quieter in character, much softer and warmer, away from tourists altogether, just 15 minutes away is the high mountain valley of La Tahá, made up of Pitres and its six delightful hamlets.
Because La Tahá is oriented east-west it receives at least 5 hours more direct sunlight than the Poqueira Gorge, which points north-south. Everyone loves La Tahá! Find out more in: La Tahá holiday guide

in Andalucia: La Alpujarra
A little old world apart from the rest of Andalucia, where you can still find mules ploughing the land, timeless villages, orchards and ancient chestnuts, and mountains that rise up from the Mediterranean to 3,479 metres atop Mulhacén.
The low Alpujarra in the valley has the bigger towns and tends to be very hot in the summer. The cottage is in the high Alpujarra, where a sunny climate combines with the mountains and the quiet, pretty white villages that you see in the Alpujarras publicity photos. It’s the high mountains where all the best walking is to be found. The air is pure and clear and the villages have water fountains with fresh mountain spring water.

Superb walking country. A great introductory walk to the area starts and finishes at the cottage. It is circular and takes less than 2 hours, passing through Ferreirola and Atalbéitar via a natural fizzy water fountain, a waterfall, views and ancient chestnuts
Pretty 15-minute walks to three villages: Ferreirola, Mecina & Atalbéitar. The area’s best country bar-restaurant is in Mecina.
Easy, direct access by car from a very quiet country road. Plenty of private parking space. Pitres is 3 km.
