Malaga Airport: 2 hrs by car to Capileira
Malaga is where most people fly to. Plenty of low cost flights available

Almeria Airport: 2 hrs 40 mins by car to Capileira
Quite a lot of low cost flights, if not as many options as Malaga

Car Rentals

 A hire car is the quickest and most convenient option for holidays in Las Alpujarras. It also opens up opportunities for discovering the mountain villages,  visits to Granada and the coast.

The big names Avis and Hertz may or may not be more expensive than other now established companies such as Europcar, Sixt and GoldCar.

A good car rental company at Malaga or Granada Airport will have clear information on their website and allow you to book and pay online, so that the vehicle will be waiting for you. Simply search for car hire at your destination airport.

Holidaymakers coming to El Gato Negro are sent detailed directions from the airport of their choice with their Booking Confirmation.

The house's GPS is 36°57'41.6"N 3°21'36.5"W.

There is free parking in Capileira near the house.


Taxis to La Alpujarra
A taxi from Malaga Airport will charge between 140 € and 180 €. The drive to Capileira takes 2 hours. Be aware that many of the airport taxis simply don't want to go outside their comfort zone and up into the mountains.
A private transfer is an interesting option for some people. Expect to pay 120 € from Malaga to Capileira. Ask us and we'll try to help.

 Buses
Not everyone wants to hire a car and although the bus service to Las Alpujarras is strictly limited, Capileira is one of the few small villages in Andalucia with a regular service from Granada every day of the week.
There are just three buses a day (including Sundays) and here are the latest times. You can book online with www.alsa.es, buy a ticket at Granada bus station, or pay on the bus itself.

Buses from Malaga to Granada
10 buses a day currently go directly to Granada from Malaga Airport (leaving opposite Arrivals as you come out) and more from Malaga bus station (Estación de autobuses). Check on: www.alsa.es


If you're planning on travelling from Granada to Capileira the same day, make sure that there's time to connect with the afternoon bus.
Buses from Granada Airport to La Alpujarra
A shuttle bus operates from Granada Airport to Granada bus station, but it can be irregular. If you're pushed for time, take a taxi. For bus times from Granada bus station to Capileira , see above. For other villages, check: www.alsa.es
